Every year, during the summer, Portugal hosts an "event" that we would all prefer not to see: a vast number of forest fires that endanger the fauna, flora, and inhabitants of the affected regions.
And with so many lives at stake, you can help ensure this "event" stops happening.Just refrain from engaging in certain activities.

Don’t throw, hand-held rocket, fireworks or balloon with lit fuses. Not only is it not recommended, but it is also prohibited.

Do not light campfires during the summer. Outside of this period, you may only do so in designated and properly marked areas.

Don’t accumulate large quantities of firewood near your house. Store it in a safe and protected place.

Don’t conduct controlled burns or bonfires in any location, no matter how small you think it may be. Unless you have prior authorization, do not take any risks.

Don’t throw cigarette butts on the ground. Nor matches, for that matter.

Never leave your trash scattered. Always leave the place as clean as possible.

Against fire, no one wins. Several species are at risk of extinction due to frequent forest fires. Here are some at greater risk in Portuguese territory.

01
Ecological Restoration
Ecological restoration reduces the risk of wildfire, promotes biodiversity conservation, enhances ecosystem services, and contributes to wealth generation in rural areas.
02
It's much more than just planting trees.
Ecological restoration has significant potential to adapt the landscape to the new climate reality: enhancing the resilience of forests, shrublands, pastures, etc., promoting mosaic agro-silvo-pastoral landscapes, or restoring degraded and desertified areas, thereby improving the quality of life in rural and urban environments.
03
Creating a diverse landscape
Ecological restoration is much more than just planting trees. In high-risk fire zones, the goal is to utilize and conserve the land, reducing its vulnerability.
04
Reduce the risk of wildfires
Ecological restoration includes: creating a diverse, sustainable, and profitable landscape; restoring the functions of forests in climate regulation; prioritizing native forests of different species and ages to enhance biodiversity; and promoting economic activities in rural areas that are compatible with biodiversity
No one wants to see these fires, but unfortunately, they are happening
